As the pandemic raged for more than a year, many Americans learned to work from home. Millions were forced to work from their kitchen tables, living room sofas or bedrooms. As it turns out, many people like the flexibility working from home provides, along with eliminating long drives to work.
Now, even though vaccination rates continue to rise, and workplaces are opening back up, some of those working from home don’t want to go back to the office every day. In turn, this is leading many professionals to think about buying a home with a dedicated work space.
A recent survey from Harvard Business School found that 81% of professionals don’t want to go back to the office full-time, with 61% saying they want to work at least two or three days per week from home, and 27% saying they want to stay remote every day. Only 18% want to go back to the office full-time.
A significant number of employers that have had positive experiences with employees working from home, are embracing the trend. The U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research predicts that on average, 20% of full work days will be completed from home in the future – compared to just 5% before the pandemic.
Efficiently working from home full- or part-time requires dedicated space that offers privacy and room to work. Homebuilders like William Ryan Homes Tampa Division have responded, offering floor plans designed to accommodate working from home with structural options like adding a study, pocket office, flex room, or extra bedroom.
Also, many of the homebuilder’s new houses are “smart homes” that have increased bandwidth capacity to ensure that work videoconferences go smoothly while the entire family is able to enjoy trouble-free entertainment like streaming movies and gaming.
Early in the pandemic, homeowners Chris Bernier and Damian Ellis purchased their fourth home from William Ryan Homes Tampa Division, having been pleased with how the homebuilder had met the couple’s changing needs over the years. Even though there was no for-sale sign in their front yard, the couple received a great offer on their home, while at the same time learning they are able to work from home permanently.
This prompted the couple to sell their home and purchase their fifth home from William Ryan Homes Tampa, this time with an extra bedroom that provides dedicated work space for the two professionals, who work for a medical manufacturing company.
Chris and Damian’s new home is in the William Ryan Homes Tampa community of Lakeside in Hudson, Florida. And they chose the Sweetwater model, a 4-bedroom, 2-bath home of 1,898 square feet.
The Sweetwater model, popular with folks who work from home, also is available in the upcoming community of Tea Olive Terrace located in Palmetto, which is a growing suburb in Tampa Bay. Homes in Tea Olive Terrace will be 3-4 bedrooms and 2-4 baths, with a wide range in size from 1,516 to 3,270 square feet. Pre-sales begin late summer.
