William Ryan Homes Tampa Garners National Green Building Gold Certification

William Ryan Homes is one of Tampa Bay’s top homebuilders of National Green Building Standard-certified homes.

William Ryan Homes’ Tampa Division recently achieved Gold Certification Level from the National Green Building Standard (NGBS), reflecting the company’s commitment to building homes that include a high level of sustainability features. 

The certification is issued by Home Innovation Research Labs, which administers the residential green building rating system, as well as other research and testing of homes and home building products.

“Lots of builders claim their homes are green,” said William Ryan Homes Tampa Division President Jeff Thorson. “But with our Green Certification from the NGBS, buyers know that our homes are compliant and truly green.” 

Having previously achieved Silver and Bronze levels, William Ryan Homes continues to move toward the highest level of Emerald. NGBS allows four certification levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Emerald – and is the only residential green certification program that requires increasingly higher point thresholds in all categories in order for a home to reach the next level of certification. 

Every NGBS Green Certified home is inspected in person at least twice by an experienced NGBS Green Verifier – an inspector independent from the builder who has been accredited by Home Innovation. Before a verifier can award the home points for the green practices claimed by the builder, he or she must visually inspect applicable green practices, products, and technologies to ensure they are implemented correctly. 

Verifiers conduct the first inspection of the home before the drywall is installed so they can verify green practices such as installation of certain types of insulation inside the walls. They then come back for a final inspection when the home is complete. Home Innovation then reviews every verification report to ensure it is complete and accurate before the NGBS certification is issued

In addition to the recent gold certification, in 2018 William Ryan Homes Tampa was named part of the 2018 NGBS Green Partners of Excellence, an annual program that recognizes the leadership, innovation, and excellence of NGBS Green Certification Program partners and other champions of credible green building in the residential sector.

Home Innovation Research Labs recognized 119 NGBS Green Partners for outstanding contributions to advancing green building in their communities and commitment to voluntary, market-driven, third-party certification of high-performance homes.
