Has there ever been a better time to be a sports fan in Tampa Bay? The Lightning won the Stanley Cup. The Rays won the American League pennant. And the Tom Brady led Bucs have their eyes set on making a deep run in the NFL playoffs in December. Surely, nothing brings a community together quite like cheering on multiple, championship-calibur sports teams. And for 20 years, Beanies has provided Tampa Bay with one of the premier places do just that.
A family operation through and through, Beanies is owned by brothers Beanie and Frank Tichy, along with Beanie’s wife Debbie. Frank’s wife and Beanie’s daughters also work at the local sports pub. The brothers originally came to the area in middle school after being born in Chicago. But don’t worry. They’ve put their Chicago sports fandom behind them in favor of cheering on the Tampa teams.
“They’ve been here long enough to be able to convert,” Beanie’s daughter Shannon Miron said.
The comfortable, homey feel of Beanies has created a loyal following through the years, which Miron cherishes.
“The more you see them, the more they feel a part of the family,” she said.
The family aspect of the family sports bar extends well past the walls of their building. Beanies goes above and beyond with support for the local community. Each year, they collect school supply donations to provide to local school children. They also supply spaghetti dinners to the local VFW for their spaghetti dinner fundraisers.
And with December right around the corner, Beanie’s is once again set to host its Angel Tree, an annual tradition where local residents choose a tag off the tree at random and purchase a gift for the child whose name they selected. The gifts will be delivered to the children on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

For the majority of Americans, a house isn’t a home without our furry family members. Right down the road from both La Paloma in the Villages at Cypress Creek and Villa d’Este in the Villages at Cypress Creek. Southside Pet Salon in Riverview provides a wonderful sanctuary to pamper our pooches.
Southside Pet Salon was opened in 2015 by Lisa Grosso. The employees have more than 30 combined years in the pet grooming industry. The salon experience includes a haircut, bath, and an ear cleaning. In addition to the pampering options, they also serve as a doggy daycare and a pet hotel.
“Our goal (with the daycare) is to tire them out for the owner who works so hard all day,” manager Anna Turner said.
For families going out of town, Southside Pet Salon also has a long-term boarding option where their pups will be pampered throughout their stay. Owners have the ability to check in thanks to a 24-7 webcam.

Anthony Spinuso, the owner of Mamma Mia’s Pizzeria, wants residents at Lakeside to know they don’t have to travel very far to get an authentic New York slice of pizza.
“There was a woman who finally found us after 3-4 years. When she did, she said ‘Thank God. You’re saving me so much money in gas!’” Spinuso recalled.
Spinuso prides himself on stories just like that, boasting a clientele that can’t get enough of his pizza.
“There’s nowhere else like this,” he said. “They can only eat our pizza. They’re stuck here!”
The family-owned eatery was originally founded in 1988 in Brooklyn and moved to western Florida in 2000 when the family relocated to Hudson. In addition to its selection of pizzas, they offer meatballs, lasagna, manicotti and chicken all made from scratch by Spinuso’s Sicilian grandparents using old family recipes.

No neighborhood is complete without a go-to breakfast spot. For the residents at FloraBlu Estates, that spot is Martha’s Family Restaurant. Rated as Yelp’s Best Breakfast spot in Seffner for four-straight years, the local eatery prides itself on Southern cooking, including its most popular dish: the hillbilly skillet.
Though they serve breakfast all day, Martha’s Family Restaurant also offers a wide variety of dinner specials including: all you can eat spaghetti night, all you can eat seafood night, and a chef’s table featuring a five-course meal with prime rib.
Martha’s loves being a part of the Seffner community. The restaurant holds a weekly painting night taught by an area resident. It also gives back to the Seffner community, most prominently with collection boxes for The Shriners Hospitals for Children.
“Seffner is really great with charities. It’s family,” owner Roger Lovely said.

Residents at Cross Creek don’t have to travel very far to get their authentic Italian dining fix thanks to Ferraro’s Italian Grille. The eatery is owned and operated by the LoGrande family who has been perfecting Italian cooking since the 1950s when they were still living in Sicily. After more than 20 years of serving the residents in New York and Jersey, the family relocated to western Florida and has since opened restaurants in Punta Gorda, Sarasota, and Parrish.
The family-owned business prides itself on offering a family-feel atmosphere, has employed the same staff at its Parrish location since opening in 2009, and loves the Parrish community.
“I love the unity. It’s close knit. We support each other,” Sal LoGrande said.
The family doesn’t just appreciate the local residents, they do their best to give back by sponsoring local sports teams, charities, and community events. They also support Law Enforcement United, a non-profit organization that raises funds to honor fallen officers and help their families.
