“Tampa is a rare combination of action-packed and affordable,” says Money magazine in a story with its new list of the nation’s “Best Places to Live.” We couldn’t have said it better.
Tampa ranks No. 9 on the list of 50 cities, and the magazine talks about how the Tampa Bay area offers housing affordability, cool nightlife in Ybor City, quality museums and theme parks like the Dali Museum and Busch Gardens, and top-notch professional sports teams.
After applying some filters that resulted in giving higher ranks to cities of over 200,000 residents that did well in diversity and household income, Money applied more filters to the 1,370 cities that made the initial cut. Data used to narrow and rank the cities was tied to everything from cost of living, diversity and economic opportunity to education, fun and amenities and health and safety.
The Tampa Bay area has been making lists like this one for a while, and it’s clear why people both from around Florida and around the country are moving there and buying homes. Florida is known as a place with a reasonable cost of living, tons of activities, and a high overall quality of life.
For decades, the Tampa Bay area was known as a place for folks from the Midwest to move, while the east coast of Florida tended to attract relocations from the Northeast. But now, the west coast – and the Tampa Bay area in particular – is drawing people from all over the country who realize the area’s appeal. In fact, earlier this year a study by Redfin showed that Tampa ranked No. 3 on a list of cities that Americans were looking to move to, behind only Miami and Phoenix.
