Live Greener. Live Better

Living green is about embracing better ways to live. It’s about healthier homes. It’s about increasing energy and water efficiency. It’s about helping to improve the communities in which we live.

Living in a William Ryan Homes' NGBS Green Certified
home is truly living green.

William Ryan Homes Tampa designs and builds homes using green building practices that meet a nationally recognized standard for green building. We have incorporated green features resulting in homes that are healthier for residents, cost less to operate, and are better for the community.

All our Tampa homes are tested by an independent research and testing organization, Home Innovation Research Labs, which provides the rigorous 3rd party credibility of Green Certification to the National Green Building StandardTM (NGBS). William Ryan Homes Tampa Green Certified homes meet the highest environmental performance standards, achieving GOLD certification.

What does owning a Green home mean for you?

A better place to call home! Having a Green home saves money, energy and natural resources.

Energy Efficiency – Appliances, insulation, doors, windows, heating and air-conditioning and the home's design all work together to conserve energy resources and reduce utility bills. For example: Covered doorways protect exterior doors from rain and sun exposure, enhance durability, and reduce the effects of weathering on your home’s entry. We also use ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances which incorporate advanced technologies and use 10 to 50 percent less energy than standard appliances.

Water Efficiency – Water heaters, toilets, faucets and shower heads conserve water and save you money! Our ENERGY STAR® clothes washers use 40 to 50 percent less energy and about 55 percent less water than standard washers.

Improved Indoor Air Quality – Innovative ventilation techniques, along with paints, sealants and adhesives made without harmful compounds help improve our home’s indoor environment. For example, William Ryan Homes uses low-VOC emitting cabinets to help improve indoor air quality. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are considered indoor pollutants and can cause negative impacts to people who are exposed to them.

Sensible Site Development – Our neighborhoods have sidewalks and are close to everything. Our homes are positioned to lessen site disturbance, yet take advantage of natural resources. This is smart site design.

Smart Sustainable Resource Management – Sensible use of resources for sustainability. Our materials are selected for durability, origin, and recycled content, while waste-management strategies reduce the environmental impact of the home's construction. So efficient! So green!

Education – Every homeowner who purchases a William Ryan Homes green-certified home, receives a detailed Owner’s Manual describing the green features in the home. The manual can help homeowners ensure that their homes continue to operate as designed and extend the service life of the structure and equipment.

Green Certification to the National Green Building Standard
For single- or multifamily homes to become NGBS Green Certified, the standard requires green building practices in six categories:

1. Lot Design, Preparation, and Development
2. Resource Efficiency
3.Energy Efficiency
4.Water Efficiency
5. Indoor Environmental Quality
6. Building Owner Education: Operation and Maintenance

By stringent adherence to the NGBS guidelines, we offer our homeowners greater value, performance, and long-term satisfaction in their new home. So, buy with confidence knowing that your new home includes improved:

• Indoor Environment and Air Quality
• Energy & Water Efficiency
• Thermal, Air & Moisture Barriers
• Natural Resource Conservation
• Environmental Performance

GLOSSARY and Links to More Information

ICC-700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS): An ANSI-approved residential green building standard developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the International Code Council (ICC). It is applicable to single and multifamily projects, renovations and additions and residential land development. To comply, all buildings must incorporate sustainable lot development techniques and address energy, water & material resource efficiency and indoor environmental quality. Also, all owners must be educated about building operation and maintenance. Certification to the NGBS is provided by the Home Innovation Research Labs.

Energy Star®: ENERGY STAR certified new homes must meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are independently verified to be at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and feature additional measures that deliver a total energy efficiency improvement of up to 30 percent compared to typical new homes and even more compared to most resale homes. https://www.energystar.gov/newhomes?s=footer

Hers Index: The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index is the Industry Standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured. It’s also the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance. http://www.resnet.us/hers-index

This Index is assessed by a qualified third party certifier based on the physical characteristics of the house. The energy estimates from this assessment may vary depending on the lifestyle of the occupants, increasing utility expenses, and changes in the maintenance or characteristics of the energy features.

Low-E: Low emittance indicates a coating is added to the glass surface. The coating allows visible light to pass through the glass while stopping the radiant heat energy from the sun and heat sources in the building from passing through the glass. Approximately 40% of the sun’s harmful ultra violet rays are blocked and insulation enhanced. SEER: Seasonal energy efficiency ratio - The higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the equipment is. A higher SEER can result in lower energy costs. https://www.energystar.gov/products/building_products/residential_windows_doors_and_skylights/key_product_criteria
