A Chicago-based homebuilder that left Dallas-Fort Worth in 2009 has relaunched operations in the area and started home sales again. William Ryan Homes put 1,500 lots under contract in nine communities across North Texas since 2021 and is now selling homes in The Preserve at Pecan Creek in Denton, West Crossing in Anna, Creekside in Royse City and Devonshire in Forney, the company said Thursday. The company also plans to open for sales in Wildflower Ranch near Fort Worth and Aster Park in McKinney later this summer.
The builder plans to eventually build 500 homes per year in North Texas.
“If you’re a homebuilder, you want to be in Dallas-Fort Worth,” said D-FW division manager Scott Dettmer, who joined the company in 2022 and previously worked for David Weekley Homes in Dallas-Fort Worth. “There is a nice blend of developers, product types and locations.”
Founded in Chicago by William Ryan in 1992, the company continues to build in the Windy City and has expanded into Wisconsin, Florida and Arizona in addition to D-FW. It has built more than 15,000 homes.
The company left due to market conditions during the recession but the founder “always intended to return to Dallas,” Dettmer said.
“When we withdrew from the market, we made sure we still took care of customer warranties, we still paid all of our contractors, did everything with an eye toward wanting to return to Dallas-Fort Worth, having a good name when we chose to do so,” Dettmer said.
