Conveniently located along I-4 between Tampa and Orlando, Lakeland is a vibrant, growing city with four universities and colleges, a cool cultural scene, many beautiful parks and lakes, and picturesque downtown. Just 35-45 minutes from downtown Tampa and Tampa International Airport, Lakeland is quiet, has lots of natural beauty, and is affordable. Lakeland residents also enjoy quick access to Disney and the theme parks - approximately a 47-minute drive.


A little mecca of cool, downtown Lakeland has boutiques, antiques, and vintage finds. The Munn Park Historic District is known for its antique shops and early-1900s architecture. Between N. Kentucky and N. Tennessee St, from Lemon to Pine St is the hot spot of local fine dining and entertainment to explore and enjoy.

    The city's many lakes include Lake Mirror, with its Frances Langford promenade and neoclassical Hollis Garden.     Barnett Family Park is a local favorite. Located at the top of the Lake Mirror Amphitheater, the park includes a splash pad water feature, two playgrounds, a labyrinth, a covered picnic area, restrooms, and a multipurpose field.


    Designed for small children, ages 3-5, Sunflower Preschool Playground is part of Barnett Family Park. The park's equipment is specially selected to help little ones develop coordinated motion, balance, and climbing skills.

    Spring Training draws thousands to Joker Marchant Stadium, home of the Detroit Tigers and Lakeland's Flying Tigers. Just 2 miles north of downtown, Joker Marchant Stadium is fun for baseball fans of all ages.


    The Downtown Farmers Curb Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm, September through May (and 8 am-1 pm in June and July). Instead of ending at the railroad tracks, the Market now extends South to Lemon St. for two additional blocks (with plenty of room for social distancing between vendors).

    The Lakeland area is home to four universities: Southeastern University, Florida Polytechnic University, Polk State College's Lakeland campus, and Florida Southern College, which hosts the most extensive on-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.


    The Polk Museum of Art's collection ranges from pre-Columbian artifacts to contemporary paintings.     The Imperial Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1965, has been educating, entertaining, and inspiring central Florida audiences for more than 50 years.

    The Holiday Walkabout is a family-friendly event held in downtown Lakeland's streets between Lemon and Oak Streets along Kentucky Ave. and Tennessee Ave. Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides around Munn Park, Santa photos, Santa's Workshop (Free Craft Activities for Kids)  and Ice Skating on synthetic ice at the Elves’ Playground.


    First Friday | December 4, 2020 | 6 pm to 9 pm.

    Downtown Lakeland. Take pictures with Santa in Munn Park for $5 per person (6:30-8:30 pm), and later, stroll around and enjoy the city's holiday light display.

    Downtown shops and restaurants will be open late. Enjoy goodies, giveaways, and discounts from local business exhibitors.
