Tips for Staying Cool in Your William Ryan Home
Summer is here and we know with the long hot days it’s important to find ways to stay cool. Aside from the water attractions and pools located near and within our communities, William Ryan Homes builds every home with energy-efficient features that will also keep you cool. The main thing is knowing how to fully maximize and maintain their effectiveness. Check out these tips on ways to keep your home cool and energy-efficient this summer.
In rooms with ceilings of normal height, fans can keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, and can potentially lower your energy bills. Keep them spinning counterclockwise in warm months to push cool air from the top of the room down to floor level. For more energy savings, be sure the blades are spinning at the lowest possible setting.
Certain types of lightbulbs, like incandescent bulbs, can produce a lot of unnecessary heat. When updating the lightbulbs in your home, make sure to choose energy-saving bulbs like LEDs that don’t give off too much heat while in use. This helps you save on energy costs and stay cool – a win-win!
As mentioned, your HVAC is the primary way to keep your home cool. Keeping it up-to-date and maintained will help it run more efficiently. One way to do this is by checking for dirt and dust that’s clogging the air filter. It’s recommended to change your filter every 90 days or 3 months. Once you change the filter, you should notice an improvement in the quality of air, your energy bill, and its ability to cool your home.
